The Organisational Development (OD) Team and A Kind Life have a range of sessions including e-learning and virtual training sessions to support a kinder way of working within the organisation.

These courses are open to all staff across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Kindness into Action - E-Learning

Kindness into Action is a series of 5 interactive modules:
1. Kindness into Action  |  Setting the scene
2. Kindness into Action  |  More kindness
3. Kindness into Action  |  Less unkindness
4. Kindness into Action  |  Kinder feedback
5. Kindness into Action  |  RECOVER, a positive summary

In each we’ll unpack the evidence showing all the ways that kindness improves things for staff and patients, we’ll explore what kindness, and unkindness, really look like in healthcare, and we’ll share lots of practical ways for you to benefit from kindness in your work.

You can find all these modules on ESR by searching "418 E-Learning - Kindness into Action" and all of the modules will appear for enrolment.

Appraise with Values - E-Learning

Values-led organisations have more engaged staff, better teamwork and better patient experience. And this results in safer care with better outcomes for patients. Values need to be 'lived’ – in everyday work, not just ‘laminated’ – in posters on the wall. One way of doing this is to ensure values are included in regular and annual development discussions.

We involved more than 750 NHS leaders, managers, clinicians and frontline staff in co-creating this new approach to values-based reviews. In this work they told us:

  1. People do their best work

    • when they can use their strengths and learn from successes, as well as improving and learning when things didn’t go well

    • when they are involved in setting their goals, objectives and development pathway, and supported to deliver them

  2. Great performance needs regular conversations, as well as an annual review

  3. So that managers get to know their people, and so employees always know how they are doing: what they are doing well, as well as where they can improve

This course, is going to help you to have great formal and informal development discussions.

What in the past you might have called – appraisals, or performance development reviews – but which in fact are so much more valuable than those words suggest.

The course is for you – whichever side of the conversation you are on - managers and employees. Because you are equally valuable in making these discussions a success.

We will cover why these conversations are important. And how they can benefit you.

We will uncover some of the common pitfalls. Why they may not have worked in the past. And how you can avoid making the same mistakes.

And we will leave you with  practical tools to take away and use right now.

Whether you are a manager or an employee.

You can have great discussions that lead to great development.
